PS 295 Comprehensive Education Plan

PS 295’s School Leadership Team (SLT) prepares the annual Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP) which includes our school’s goals and strategies, including guidance on the comprehensive needs assessment.

This CEP plan satisfies all regulatory requirements set forth by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and aligns with the Chancellor’s Four Pillars for Building Trust in NYC Public Schools:

  1. Reimagining the Student Experience

  2. Scaling, Sustaining and Restoring What Works

  3. Prioritizing Wellness and its Link to Student Success

  4. Engaging Families as True Partners

  • The CEP is a document that engages stakeholders in continuous improvement practices through an equity lens. The School Leadership Team (SLT) follows these steps to develop the CEP.

The CEP development process begins with the identification of Areas of Concentration (AOCs), followed by a comprehensive needs assessment informed by an analysis of the school’s most current data to identify inequities. Once the SLT clearly understands school needs, priorities and root causes, the team uses this data analysis to set specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely—SMART goal(s) for AOCs. Next, the SLT determines targets to measure progress toward meeting the annual goals. The SLT, in collaboration with other instructional leaders, creates progressive action steps including professional learning and identifies strategies to support parent, family and community empowerment to support the achievement of CEP goals. The SLT aligns the school-based budget with human and instructional resources to support implementation of the action plan and achievement of annual goals.

As schools set goals and plan action steps, they provide opportunities forall children to meet NYSED’s proficient and advanced levels of student academic achievement. These include evidence based instructional strategies that address the educational needs of historically underserved populations and tackle structural inequities. Schools indicate how the plan addresses the needs of Multilingual/English Language Learners (ML/ELL) through development of the school’s Language Allocation Policy (LAP) & Title III Application (if applicable) and the Language Translation and Interpretation (LTI) Plan, that are required as part of the Comprehensive Education Plan. Schools also address the needs of Students with Disabilities (SWD) through the Quality Individualized Education Program (IEP) Area of Concentration.

  • The PS 295 School Leadership Team (SLT) is an advisory committee of school staff and parents / caregivers who help guide the school’s budget, business plan, homework policies, testing, and student enrichment opportunities.

SLT membership includes the principal, United Federation of Teachers (UFT) representative, Family Teacher Association (FTA) president, and additional members elected for two-year terms each spring.
