School Leadership Team

PS 295’s School Leadership Team (SLT) is a collaborative advisory committee of school staff, parents, and caregivers who develop educational policies, school budget, business plan, homework policies, testing, student enrichment opportunities, and resources to support these policies.

Based on NYC Public School policy, every school is required to organize a School Leadership Team, including the principal, United Federation of Teachers (UFT) representative, Family Teacher Association (FTA) president, and additional members elected for two-year terms each spring. The SLT must have an equal number of parents and staff (a minimum of 10 members, and a maximum of 17 members). SLT uses consensus, cooperation, and mutual respect to empowers each member’s contribution that shape team decisions.

If you have topic, you'd like the SLT to discuss, questions about its proceedings, or other concerns, contact us.

Meeting Dates

PS 295’s School Leadership Team meetings are held each month in-person in Room 110. All parents, guardians, caretakers, teachers, and staff are welcome to attend and listen to the proceedings. Dates, times, and locations are subject to change and will be announced publicly if that occurs.

  • An SLT is responsible for developing a school’s Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP). See the iPlan portal (Open external link)to find your CEP.

An SLT makes a yearly evaluation of the principal’s record of developing an effective, shared decision-making relationship with the SLT members during the year. This evaluation is given to the community district or high school superintendent.

The SLT is not responsible for the hiring or firing of school staff. However, according to Chancellor’s Regulation C-30, the SLT must be consulted prior to the appointment of a principal or assistant principal.

Visit the SLT support site(Open external link) to get the toolkit, bylaws, training modules, and other resources.

Guidance on Public Meetings and School Visits

School Leadership Teams (SLTs) and Citywide/Community Education Councils (CCECs) are essential elements of our educational governance structure and ensure collaborative decision- making in school-level and district-level policy. The Guidance on Public Meetings and School Visits explains how SLT and CCEC meetings can be conducted in accordance with recent changes in law and vaccination mandates.
