Dreams Come to Life at PS 295
PS 295’s Sensory Room features soft play, tacticle materials, and supportive tools designed to calm.
PARK SLOPE — While it’s still a hot and humid summer outside, there’s something cool happening inside PS 295: The Studio School of Arts and Culture.
Walls are getting a fresh coat of paint, new signage is ready to be placed, and classrooms are moving around to bring everyone in 3-K to 5th grade onto the same floor of the building.
The school’s newly funded Sensory Room, a specialized open-format movement space — the first of its kind in NYC District 15 — is getting setup to open its doors to every class at least three times a week starting in September.
The Sensory Room, organized with grant funding in partnership between the school leadership and the Family Teacher Association, is a great example of the inclusive approach to social-emotional learning that is at the center of PS 295.
It’s one of many initiatives to expect in the upcoming 2025-26 school year, including the return of Marquis Studio’s popular Bollywood Dance artist residency, Kinderdance’s 3-K and Pre-K motor development residency, a music exploration program, a new hands-on Amplify Science curriculum, an inspiring school play, Pride Community, and more!
Students can look forward to an exciting year ahead: filled with innovative learning opportunities, engaging activities for the entire family, and plenty of ways to make lasting friendships. ❤
