Open Doors to New Adventures
New this year: all families were invited up to see their child’s classroom on the first day of school, doubling as a helpful way to drop-off those big bags of school supplies.
PARK SLOPE — The sidewalks of Park Slope buzzed with anticipation as families made their way to school today. Walking down the familiar neighborhood blocks, stepping off the bus, or climbing the subway station stairs, students arrived with backpacks full of supplies and hearts full of excitement. Welcome to a great year at PS 295 The Studio School of Arts and Culture!
At 8am today, the Courtyard doors on 19th Street swung open, welcoming families into the heart of the PS 295 community. There was something magical about those first thirty minutes as parents walked alongside their children up to their new classrooms, teachers greeted familiar faces and met new ones, and the gentle buzz of conversation and songs floated down the hallways.
For our youngest learners in 3-K and Pre-K, those special introductions to their teachers (and fellow nervous classmates) created a memorable start to the day. Older students quickly fell into the rhythm of morning routines, grabbing a healthy breakfast and hugging long-time friends, before diving into a day of discovery.
“We’re so excited to welcome our brand new families to the PS 295 community, especially because we have smaller class sizes starting today thanks to a grant we were awarded back in April,” remarked Madeline Kerner, co-president of the PS 295 Family Teacher Association. “That funding allowed us to add two classes, a science lab, additional classroom furniture, learning materials, and six new teachers. It’s a big deal for our small school!”
Whether families joined PS 295 for the first time or returned for another year, there was comfort in knowing that the dedicated staff were ready to help every student thrive and grow every day.
As 2:35pm arrived and families gathered in the Courtyard once again to pick-up their kiddos and hear breathlessly all about their adventures at school, there was an unmistakable energy and enthusiasm in the air: the start of a new chapter! ❤
